6 Tips on How to Find BEAUTIFUL Furniture on Craigslist

My house is full of beautiful furniture from Craigslist.  Craigslist is a great place to find furniture when decorating on a budget. Everyone who walks through my front door can’t stop swooning over my home decor and they always say that they can’t believe so much stuff came off craigslist.  I have purchased my couch, dinning room table, coffee table, buffet, columns for my yard, dressers, sinks for my master bathroom, my lawnmower, and more from the website. Everyone asks how do I find such great items and here’s how.

  1. SEARCH FOR 1 PIECE OF FURNITURE AT A TIME
I would not recommend going to the for sale tab on craigslist and searching furniture and scrolling through page after page of furniture.  This is a time drain and will discourage you from searching consistently.  Instead, use the search bar to search for a specific item such as a couch, buffet, or dresser.
  2. KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT
For example, there are a ton of different chairs for sale on craigslist.  Are you searching for a “brown leather chair,” “recliner,” “wingback chair,” “dinning chairs,” “club chairs,” “wicker chairs,” etc.  Be specific!
  3. SEARCH FOR NAME BRANDS
Do you love looking through the Pottery Barn Catalog or perusing West Elm but don’t want to cough up that much money for your home decor? I would recommend putting your favorite name brand furniture in the search bar and see what comes up.  A lot of times you will find lightly worn furniture at a big discount.  Try search “Pottery Barn,” “Anthropologie,” “Room & Board,” “West Elm,” “Rejuvenation,” etc. and see what you find!  You will be amazed!
  4. BE CONSISTENT
The good stuff on craigslist will go fast.  Check daily for new items that have been posted.

  5. BE WILLING TO DRIVE TO GET WHAT YOU WANT
Expand your search beyond your local craigslist area. Sometimes you get lucky and find what you are looking for in your backyard.  A lot of times you might need to drive an hour or two but if the price is right than it’s worth it! You can always make an experience out of it and go grab lunch at a nice restaurant, meet up with a friend that lives in that town, or go explore a museum.
  6.  ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BUY
Try to get as much information on the piece before you go purchase it.  Ask for measurements and make sure the piece will fit in the space you are trying to fill.  Clarify the condition and ask specifically for pictures of the flaws if they aren’t already posted on craigslist.

Also, please use caution when using craigslist.  It’s not easy meeting at a police station to swap furniture so always bring someone with you if you meet at the person’s home.
