The Ivy Chelsea Garden

How To Make Afternoon Tea Reservations at the Best Place in London

In 2017 my sister, Kaeli, and I went to London to celebrate my 30th birthday. Kaeli wanted to treat me to the quintessential British tradition, afternoon tea. While waiting in line for the Princess Diana exhibit at Kensington Palace we met this lovely Mom and daughter from Ireland. After standing in line with them for an hour we discovered the daughter was working in London and the mother came to visit for the weekend. Kaeli asked the daughter for a recommendation on the best place to have afternoon tea and she highly recommended The Ivy Chelsea Garden and we were delighted that we did.

The Ivy Chelsea Garden has a lovely and elegant atmosphere.  Vintage garden prints adorn the walls and lots of lush greenery sprinkle the indoor dinning room. The outdoor garden room has a secret garden feel with hydrangeas, vines, and cozy fireplaces for cooler weather. The comfortable and sophisticated furniture throughout makes you want to linger for a while.

Kaeli and I both ordered the afternoon tea. Sweet and savory treats are served beautifully on a tiered tray with a sterling silver pot of earl grey tea (or the tea of your choice).  The presentation is superb, but the food is even better. The Afternoon Tea Menu includes a variety of tea sandwiches and British sweet treats.   My favorite tea sandwich was the smoked salmon on dark rye with cream cheese and chives.  Ever since I left The Ivy Chelsea Garden, I have been dreaming about the warm fruited scones with Dorset clotted cream and strawberry preserves. It’s torture that clotted cream isn’t available in the states.  I hope I can find some recipes that are reminiscent of these British treats so I can have my own tea party at home.

Afternoon tea at the Ivy Chelsea Garden is a must on your next trip to London!  Afternoon tea is only available from 3:00-5:00 daily so make sure you plan accordingly. You must make a reservation ahead of time. The best way to book a reservation is on open table.

Cheers!
